The treated area can appear red and may start to peel over then next few days. It will feel like a mild to moderate sun burn. Exposure to sunlight in the first 24-48 hour period after your treatment will make all of the following symptoms more intense.
You may notice marked redness, swelling, and tenderness over the treated area. This is a normal reaction and will start to improve after 24-48 hours.
Common side effect include:
- Temporary swelling of the treated area, especially the lips and around the eyes can occur for a few days
- Dark patches of skin can become temporarily darker and then start to flake off about two weeks leaving normal skin
- Moderate to severe redness
- Moderate swelling over the treated area
In order to make your recovery as quick and easy as possible you should:
- Strictly avoid sunlight for 24-48 hours after your treatment
- Apply Sunscreen (Zinc and Titanium) every morning
- Apply cold packs to treated area to help alleviate any discomfort
- 800mg of Motrin every six hours with meals will help reduce any swelling or tenderness
- If redness persist for more than 5 days you may be give a prescription for prednisone
