Sculptra FAQs

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an injectable implant that contains microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible, biodegradable, polymer from the alpha-hydroxy-acid family. It has been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy).

The amazing benefit the this product is that is in the only fully biodegradable filler with this type of effective duration. In most cases Sculptra last between 2 and 3 years. Sculptra is injected under the skin at three consecutive visits spaced about 6-8 weeks apart. It works to stimulat the deep layers of the skin to produce more collagen. This is a very effective treatment for restoring volume loss in the face.

Where does Sculptra work the best?

Sculptra will help correct volume loss in the following areas:

  • Under eye area
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Melomental folds (Marionette lines)
  • Perioral wrinkles

How many treatment will I need?

You will need 3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart to achieve the best results.

When will I see results?

You may notice some results within 8-12 weeks of your first treatment and by 6 months you will have acheived between 70-90% of the final result. You will continue to see about 10% additional improvement through the first year!

How much Sculptra do I need?

This depends mainly on three factors:

  • The number of areas to be treatmented
  • Amount of volume loss
  • Amount of correction requested by patient

How much will Sculptra cost?

As noted previously this is dependent on the factor listed above. The average cost for a treatment is between $400-$800.

What should I do before I come in?

Please try to avoid products including, Vitamin E, omega fatty acids (fish oil), flax seed, NSAIDS (Aleve, Motrin, Advil), aspirin, St. John's Wart and red wine 7-10 days before and after your treatment. These products increase the likelihood and severity of bleeding and bruising. Do not plan any major activities immediately after your procedure.

What will happen during my appointment?

Dr. Verebelyi will discuss your expectations and what areas you are interested in having treated. He will spend as long as needed until you are comfortable before your treatment. Immediately before your procedure the treatment area will be prepped with alcohol and photos will be taken. Sculptra will be placed under the skin in areas that need volume. Dr. Verebelyi is very gentle and almost all patient report minimal if any pain. The total treatment time will normal last about 15 to 30 minutes.
